The organisation

When your product is data protection, your cryptography is the product

An enterprise secure data sharing platform enabling organisations to exchange sensitive information through encrypted APIs. Every transaction on the platform is a cryptographic operation: key exchange, encryption, signing and verification. The platform's value proposition is built on the assumption that the encryption protecting its customers' data will hold.

For a product whose entire trust model rests on cryptographic strength, the quantum threat is not an infrastructure concern. It is a product risk. If the underlying encryption becomes breakable, the product itself loses its reason to exist. That makes PQC migration an existential priority, not a compliance checkbox.

The challenge

Classical cryptography at the core of a production platform

The platform relied on classical key exchange (ECDH) and digital signatures (ECDSA) across its API surface. Every data sharing operation depended on these primitives. Enterprise buyers in regulated sectors were beginning to ask about PQC roadmaps, and the competitive landscape was shifting: platforms that could demonstrate quantum-resistant encryption would have an advantage where long-term data confidentiality is a contractual requirement.

The migration needed to happen at the API layer without breaking existing client integrations. No client-side code changes could be required. The encryption upgrade had to be invisible to end users while fundamentally changing the cryptographic primitives underneath.

Performance was a hard constraint. Any increase in latency or payload size from post-quantum algorithms needed to stay within the tolerances that enterprise API consumers expected. A migration that degraded the user experience was not an option.

The approach

API-native PQC, no client-side changes

CipherForge was integrated at the API layer. ML-KEM (FIPS 203) replaced ECDH for key encapsulation. ML-DSA (FIPS 204) replaced ECDSA for digital signatures. The integration used CipherForge's embedded library with centralised management, enabling algorithm updates to be pushed to all deployed instances without requiring client-side rebuilds.

Crypto-agility was built in from the start. The CipherForge architecture allows algorithm rotation through the centralised management dashboard. As NIST standards evolve, as new algorithms are approved, or if a deployed algorithm is found to have a weakness, the platform can adapt without another migration cycle. Algorithm changes become operational updates, not engineering projects.

The formally verified implementation layer was a deciding factor. CipherForge's Jasmin/C hybrid architecture ensures constant-time execution for all secret-handling operations, closing the timing side-channel gap that affects reference implementations. For a platform where cryptographic operations run on every API call, side-channel resistance is not a theoretical concern. It is a production requirement.

Why it matters

When your platform ships PQC, your customers inherit it

For SaaS platforms handling sensitive data, PQC migration is not just a security decision. It is a competitive advantage. The first platforms to make this transition set the standard their competitors will need to match. In regulated sectors where procurement teams are beginning to ask about quantum readiness, being able to demonstrate production PQC is a differentiator that is difficult to replicate quickly.

The crypto-agility layer is equally important. NIST's post-quantum standards will continue to evolve. New algorithms will be approved. Existing ones may be revised. A platform that can rotate algorithms through a management dashboard, without requiring engineering sprints or client coordination, is structurally better positioned than one that treats each algorithm change as a new migration project.

Every customer on a platform that ships quantum-resistant cryptography inherits the protection without lifting a finger. That is the leverage of API-native PQC: one integration protects every user on the other side of it.
